OHL to add capacity after buoyant growth:
Oriental Hotels Ltd (OHL), the Chennai-based associate company of Tata Group promoted Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), posted net profit of Rs1.68 crore in the first quarter 2010 (Q1 FY’10-11), showing an increase of 186% over Rs0.59 crore reported in the corresponding period last year. The company also recorded total income of Rs48.27 crore vis-a-vis Rs36.94 crore in the corresponding period last year.
Buoyed by this the company is adding two hotels in its existing portfolio in South India.
The company is entering the Coimbatore hospitality market with a Taj hotel and will be launching a Gateway branded hotel in Bangalore. Together the two hotels will increase OHL’s guest room inventory by 380.
OHL currently has eight hotels and an overall 870 guest rooms. The company, in August last year, acquired a completed hotel with 126-rooms in Thiruvananthapuram to be branded as Vivanta by Taj.
The addition of 200 rooms at Coimbatore and 180 rooms at Bannerghatta in Bangalore is expected to take the total OHL portfolio to 10 hotels and 1,250 guestrooms by 2012.
